Joel Matip’s Shock Return to the Premier League: Is West Ham the Perfect Fit?
Just when you thought you’d seen the last of Joel Matip in the Premier League, reports emerge that the former Liverpool defender could be set for a stunning return to the top flight. And, according to our sources, West Ham United are the club most likely to snap him up.
Matip, 33, left Anfield at the end of last season after eight incredible years with the Reds. During his time at Liverpool, he established himself as one of the most consistent and reliable centre-backs in the league, making over 200 appearances and helping the club win numerous honors.
But, despite his age, Matip’s impressive performances and leadership qualities mean he’s still got a lot to offer. And, with West Ham in the market for a new defender to strengthen their backline, Matip could be the perfect fit.
As our friends at Sky Sports reported, Matip is one of two centre-backs under consideration at the London Stadium, along with former Sheffield United defender John Egan. The Hammers are keen to replace Kurt Zouma and Nayef Aguerd, who both left the club last week to join Saudi Pro League and La Liga sides respectively.
