First Premier League managerial sacking could happen during international break

Southampton Stumble Again: Can They Save Russell Martin from Sack?

In just six matches, Russell Martin’s Southampton side has turned into a Premier League basket case. The 3-1 defeat to Bournemouth on Monday only hammered the final nail into their struggling coffin. With the Reds now just one point adrift of the dreaded bottom spot, the heat on Martin is reaching a boiling point.

According to whispers, the Southampton board are considering axing the Scot – a move that could make them the fifth club from six to part ways with their manager this term.

It’s hard to be optimistic about the Saints. Their dismal form has led them to become the lowest scorers in the league (just three goals to their name). The defense hasn’t been much better, with the team struggling to keep a clean sheet – they’ve already shipped nine goals.

Martin’s frustrations have boiled over, too. After the Bournemouth game, he blasted his side’s lack of fight: "We were soft… If you don’t want to run and fight properly, make contact, take things personally, like a duel, we didn’t come out of the ball at all in the first half, then it’s going to be a problem."

But the biggest blow could come from his squad’s preference for an incoming replacement. According to talks, some players might jump at the chance to welcome Ruud van Nistelrooy back as their new gaffer should Martin depart.

Is Southampton’s Sinking Ship Sunk?

To stay afloat, they’ll need to change more than just their coach – a major overhaul could be in the works.
