Manchester City’s New Kit Steals the Spotlight in Community Shield Win
Manchester City won the Community Shield against Manchester United, but it was their new home kit that took center stage. The kit, which features a unique font on the back of the shirt, has been met with widespread criticism from fans online.
The font, designed by former Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher, has been labelled "tragic" and "appalling" by some supporters. The handwriting on each shirt is a nod to Gallagher’s influence on the club, but it seems that not everyone is a fan of the design.
"I’m still trying to work out who thought this was a good idea," wrote one fan on Twitter. "It’s like they took every bad font from the 90s and mashed them together."
Another fan added, "I love City, but this kit is a mess. The font is an abomination."
Despite the criticism, City’s marketing team may be hoping that the kit will become a talking point for the club. After all, who can forget the iconic Manchester City kits of the past?
The kit is not the only thing that’s got fans talking, though. City’s 7-6 penalty shootout win over United was an intense and thrilling match. Bernardo Silva’s extra-time equalizer was the turning point in the game, and Ederson’s penalty save was the difference-maker in the shootout.
City will look to build on this win as they begin their Premier League campaign against Chelsea next weekend. Will they be able to keep their momentum going, or will they struggle to adapt to the new season?
