Adil Rami has hit out at Cristiano Ronaldo’s derogatory comments about Ligue 1, claiming he would be ‘eaten alive’ in France.
Ronaldo received two awards at the Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai last Friday.
He received the award for best Middle Eastern player and all-time top goalscorer, before giving an extensive interview where he talked about this season’s Champions League campaign and his old team Manchester United.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner also took aim at France’s Ligue 1, calling the Saudi Pro League a ‘better’ league.
“Of course, the Saudi League is better than League 1,” he said. “France only has PSG. The rest are eliminated. Try running in 38, 39, 40 degree weather and see…
“It is difficult to become champion in Saudi. Al-Hilal are better this year, Al-Ittihad are on top of the league, but I believe we have to work hard to become champion.”
The 39-year-old, who joined Al Nassr from Man United, said: “I have been champion wherever I have played and I believe I will be champion, but I have won this trophy for scoring so many goals and assisting And maintain my standards.”
An official Ligue 1 social media account has ruthlessly hit back at Ronaldo as he took aim at Lionel Messi.
And Rami, who made his name in French football playing for the likes of Marseille and Lille, has also responded to the Real Madrid legend’s comments.
