Manchester United Eye Xavi Simons Loan Move: Erik ten Hag Impressed by PSG Attacker
As Manchester United’s transfer window gets underway, the Red Devils are reportedly weighing up a loan move for Dutch attacker Xavi Simons. The 21-year-old has caught the eye of Erik ten Hag, who has already given his verdict on the PSG player.
United are in the midst of their first summer transfer window under INEOS minority ownership, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe having a significant say in transfer dealings and football operations. Despite questions over Ten Hag’s future following a disappointing eighth-place finish in the Premier League, the Dutchman has been given a reprieve and will remain at the helm until 2026.
With the management question resolved, attention has turned to improving the United squad. The club has already agreed a reported £33.7m fee with Bologna for striker Joshua Zirkzee, who is set to become their first new signing of the summer. Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt is also on the verge of joining, with United reportedly agreeing personal terms with the centre half.
But another player who could join the United ranks is Simons, who scored for the Netherlands in their Euro 2024 semi-final defeat to England. According to the Mirror, United are considering a loan move for Simons, with PSG open to the idea but only if there is an obligation to buy him next summer.
Ten Hag has already given his seal of approval to Simons, praising his drive and passion in a recent interview. "I enjoyed Xavi Simons in that game," he said. "The drive he has, the passion with which he conquers balls and recognises situations are top. His enormous drive as well. That is almost un-Dutch."
Simons’ background is certainly intriguing, having come through the youth teams at Barcelona before joining PSG in 2019. He spent last season on loan at RB Leipzig, where he gained valuable experience.
So, could Simons be the latest addition to United’s squad? Only time will tell, but one thing is for sure – the Red Devils are working hard to strengthen their team ahead of the new season.
