Enrique: Don’t expect Dembélé to fill Mbappé void

Luis Enrique Fears PSG’s Over-Reliance on Dembele

Luis Enrique has warned his Paris Saint-Germain side that relying too heavily on Ousmane Dembélé’s goals could spell trouble. Despite the French winger’s impressive form this season, with four goals and two assists, Enrique believes the team needs to improve as a whole and not put all their hopes on one player.

It’s easy to see why Dembélé is now being touted as PSG’s next top scorer, replacing the departed Kylian Mbappé. His stylish strike against Reims saw him net his fourth goal of the campaign, bringing him level with Neymar in the goal-scoring charts. But Enrique, ever the pragmatist, is refusing to make Dembélé the be-all and end-all for his team.

“We’re not looking for a goal scorer, because if you put the pressure on Dembélé and then he doesn’t score the goals you want him to score, we’ll start to have problems,” Enrique insisted. “What we want is for the team to win. Who scores? I don’t care. Let someone who wears the PSG shirt score. There is no pressure on one player only. The whole team has to keep improving.”

It’s a telling statement from the PSG boss, who clearly wants his team to spread the attacking burden and not rely solely on Dembélé. And with Marco Asensio and Gianluigi Donnarumma struggling with injuries, Enrique can ill-afford to single out one player for increased responsibility.

So, where does this leave PSG fans? Well, they’d do well to remember Enrique’s words and not overhype Dembélé’s potential. The versatile winger is a valuable asset, but the team should be built around collective, not individual, brilliance. And with Enrique’s trusted tactics and flexible squad rotation, PSG should be better equipped to overcome the expected challenges ahead.
