PSG Coach Luis Enrique Warns Against Putting Pressure on Dembélé to Fill Mbappé’s Void
Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique has sent a clear message to the media and fans alike, urging them not to put too much pressure on Ousmane Dembélé to fill the void left by Kylian Mbappé’s departure to Real Madrid.
Dembélé’s impressive display in PSG’s 1-1 draw against Reims, where he scored his fourth goal of the season, has put him firmly in the spotlight as the leading contender to take over as the team’s main striker. However, Enrique is keen to stress that the team’s success is not solely dependent on Dembélé’s goal-scoring prowess.
"We’re not looking for a goal scorer, because if you put the pressure on Dembélé and then he doesn’t score the goals you want him to score, we’ll start with the problems," Enrique warned. "What we want is for the team to win. Who scores? I don’t care. Let someone who wears the PSG shirt score. There is no pressure on one player only. The whole team has to keep improving."
Enrique’s sentiments are music to the ears of fans who have grown tired of relying on one player to carry the team to victory. PSG have a wealth of talent in their squad, and Enrique is keen to utilize his players’ versatility to overcome the challenges ahead.
"We will change players depending on what we see in the games. I have a lot of versatility in my squad to be able to use that and it’s an option we have on a regular basis with different players," Enrique explained.
PSG’s draw against Reims was a frustrating result for the team, who were expected to coast to victory against a side that has struggled to make an impact in Ligue 1 this season. However, Enrique was gracious in defeat, acknowledging that Reims were a formidable opponent.
"We knew from the start that it was going to be a very difficult game. They played very well, they’re physically very strong and they were good on the ball," Enrique said.
With PSG set to host Stade Rennais in their next league fixture and then take on Arsenal in the Champions League, Enrique will be looking to get his team’s season back on track. And if his words are anything to go by, he will be relying on his team’s collective strength rather than relying on one player to carry the load.
