England Starring for Huge Bonuses with Euro 2024 Final Glory
As England prepares to take on Spain in the Euro 2024 final, the stakes are higher than ever before. Not only is the Three Lions’ reputation on the line, but so are the bank balances of the players and coaching staff. According to recent reports, England’s stars, including manager Gareth Southgate, will bank a whopping £14 million if they lift the trophy on Sunday.
England’s remarkable run to the final began with a 2-1 semi-final win over the Netherlands, with goals from Ollie Watkins and Harry Kane securing a hard-fought victory. The win marked England’s second consecutive appearance in the men’s European Championship final, following their penalty shootout defeat to Italy at Euro 2020.
While the FA would receive £24 million for winning the tournament, the FA and the England squad have negotiated a 62.5% share of that sum, with the remainder going towards the governing body. This means that the players will be allocated £9.6 million, with a share-out across the squad, along with undisclosed bonuses for assistant coach Steve Holland.
Speaking after the semi-final win, Southgate praised England’s travelling support and acknowledged the criticism the team had faced earlier in the tournament. He revealed that the criticism had been particularly tough for the players, who had come under fire for their performances in the group stages.
"To be able to celebrate the second final is very, very special," Southgate said. "To be able to give them [the fans] a night like tonight, it’s very special."
With Spain standing in their way, England will need to bring their A-game to come away with the win. But with bonuses like these on the line, we can expect the Three Lions to put everything on the line to secure glory. Will they do it? Join the conversation and let us know!
