England’s Euro 2024 Heartbreak Sees Them Rise in FIFA Rankings
The latest FIFA world rankings have been released, and England have been handed a surprise new ranking after their Euro 2024 campaign. The Three Lions may have fallen short of their goal, but their performances have earned them a spot in the top four.
Argentina retained their title as kings of South America, while France stay put in second. Spain, who beat England in the semi-finals, climb five places to third, their fourth Euros triumph. England, meanwhile, move one place up to fourth, swapping places with Brazil after they were eliminated from the Copa America at the quarter-final stage.
But it’s not all doom and gloom for the English national team. Their impressive performances have seen them rise to fourth in the world rankings, ahead of Brazil and Belgium. This is a testament to the progress they’ve made under Gareth Southgate, and we can expect them to continue to challenge for major honors in the future.
Venezuela have been the biggest winners from the new rankings, climbing 17 places to 37th after an impressive Copa America campaign. Turkey have also received recognition for their excellent showing at Euro 2024, climbing 16 places to 26th.
Belgium and Croatia have both dropped three places, while Portugal are down two and the United States national team has fallen five positions after an underwhelming host tournament. Switzerland’s impressive tournament has resulted in an increase of four, while Czech Republic have experienced the biggest drop, sinking 13 places to 47th.
Scotland, meanwhile, have plummeted nine places to end up in 48th after failing to get out of the groups in Germany.
