Endrick Makes His Mark in Real Madrid Debut, But Loses Out to AC Milan
Real Madrid’s latest signing, Brazilian sensation Endrick, made his highly-anticipated debut for the club in a 1-0 friendly loss to AC Milan on Wednesday. The 18-year-old forward played 45 minutes, showcasing his skills in front of a sold-out crowd of 61,568 at Chicago’s Soldier Field.
Despite being surrounded by a makeshift Madrid side, Endrick impressed manager Carlo Ancelotti with his pace, agility, and ability to turn with speed in tight spaces. Ancelotti praised the youngster, saying: "He’s someone who has something truly special. He’s very fast, very dangerous in tight spaces, has the ability to turn with speed in little space, very agile in getting himself free and all these qualities he has means he’s a great talent. It’s rare to see a player with these types of characteristics."
Endrick’s debut was part of a larger rotation by Ancelotti, who opted to give several players a breather ahead of their next match against Barcelona in New Jersey on Saturday. The Italian manager praised his team’s effort, saying: "We competed, we fought, we did some good things. The first game of the pre-season with a lot of youngsters, the important thing was to compete which we did for the whole game. There were some good moments and others we could improve on but that’s normal."
Samuel Chukwueze scored the decisive goal for Milan in the 56th minute, securing the win for the Italian side in their second pre-season match. The Nigerian winger’s strike was the result of some good old-fashioned counter-attacking football, as Milan caught Madrid off guard with a swift breakaway.
