Yash Dhull, the captain of India’s U-19 World Cup victorious team, was included in the Delhi side on Wednesday for the Ranji Trophy, which starts on February 17, while India’s senior pacemaker Ishan Sharma has been made unavailable for selection.
India’s U-19 team led by Dhull was congratulated by BCCI in Ahmedabad on Wednesday during the second ODI against West Indies.
Since he was unable to play the national red ball tournament at Under-19 level due to his white ball commitments with the Indian team, Dhull will try the red cherry at the much more difficult first-class level.
“His confidence is high and although he hasn’t played many red-ball matches, we want him to try first-class cricket,” a coach told PTI.
With his future on the Indian team uncertain, veteran pacemaker Ishant has told DDCA President Rohan Jaitley that he is not available for selection to the state team.
Left arm pacemaker Pradeep Sangwan will be the team captain.
Dhull hasn’t had time to rest after winning in the Caribbean last week.
Dhull, who with the rest of the team touched down in India on Tuesday morning, will make a quick visit to his hometown of Delhi on Thursday morning before joining the team in Guwahati later in the day.
Dhull is due to arrive in Guwahati on Thursday and complete a five-day quarantine along with the rest of the team.
