DeSantis: ‘The science hasn’t changed one iota’

DeSantis said: “I would also like to say that you’re hearing a lot of conversation now in other states around the country about, ‘Oh, we’re going to lift the mask mandates on these little kids like they’re somehow just having an epiphany or even some are suggesting that the science has changed”.

The governor emphasized why Florida has never instituted similar mandates.

“And let me tell you. The science hasn’t changed one iota,” DeSantis added. “We knew from the beginning, and that is why Florida never had a forced masking policy on school children, and that is why we fought to free children from forced masking that was done locally because there never was. a justification for it. ”

“If you look at what the CDC and the Biden administration did, they are outliers in the rest of the world,” the governor continued. “You look at all the other industrialized countries. No country was as utterly insane about forcibly masking children as the US government.”

DeSantis said that unlike other states, Florida “supported parents and we supported the well-being of children.”

“And I can tell you that kids are much happier that they can go to school without having to wear masks for eight hours a day,” DeSantis said.

DeSantis: ‘Political science changed’

The Republican governor then explained why these changes have more to do with politics than science.

“So when you start to see them reevaluate or say all of this, just understand. The science hasn’t changed,” DeSantis said. “Medical science did not change. Political science changed.

“They feel the heat,” the governor continued. “They know that voters have grown tired of perpetual lockdown policies. They know they basically haven’t offered any discount and they know they’re going to be cheered at the polls, so that’s what’s causing the epiphany.”

DeSantis said now “everyone is doing what Florida was doing all along.”

In fact, the New York Times wrote yesterday that political calculations are driving decisions:

Driving these decisions is the growing number of voters who indicate they are prepared to live with the virus as it is now, and political calculations about the looming midterm elections that already have Democrats on the defensive.
