David Beckham makes his feelings clear on the current state of Man Utd during his CBS Sports debut

David Beckham’s Honest Take on Manchester United’s Current State

The UEFA Champions League is back, and while we’re all hyped to see the likes of Liverpool, AC Milan, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich battle it out, it’s hard not to notice one team’s absence: Manchester United. And no one knows that better than former Red Devil David Beckham.

During his appearance on CBS Sports, Beckham joined a star-studded panel, including Kate Abdo, Thierry Henry, Jamie Carragher, and Micah Richards. When asked about his excitement for the Champions League season, Beckham’s response was candid:

"I am, I always look forward to the Champions League season. I mean, I was lucky enough to play in the competition, win the competition, and play in the competition with different teams."

Presenter Kate Abdo couldn’t resist probing further, asking Beckham if it hurt not seeing United in the Champions League mix. Beckham’s answer was telling:

"It’s a little bit painful not seeing United, but they’re going through something, we’re too big to not be back on this stage. So at some point, we have to be."

United’s struggles have been well-documented, and it’s clear that Beckham is as invested as the rest of us in seeing them return to the top. Speaking of which, the Red Devils were in Carabao Cup action on Tuesday, taking on League One side Barnsley at Old Trafford. And boy, did they make a statement! Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Christian Eriksen, and Antony all found the net, securing a comfortable 7-0 victory and booking their spot in the next round.

Erik ten Hag’s post-match thoughts echoed Beckham’s sentiments:

"First of all, it was a difficult start, but once we found the shape, it’s not so weird because it’s the first time this team is playing together. But once we found the shape and the patterns, we scored some great goals… We played with a lot of speed, and we were very ruthless in front of the goal."

As United fans, it’s hard not to get excited about the potential that lies ahead. But as Beckham so astutely pointed out, the club has some work to do before they can reclaim their place among the Champions League elite.
