Spanish Star Marc Cucurella Fires Back After Being Booed by German Fans During Euro 2024 Semi-Final
Spanish defender Marc Cucurella has given his thoughts on the heavy boos he received from the crowd throughout Spain’s semi-final victory over France at the Allianz Arena.
Despite Spain emerging victorious, Cucurella, 23, was a target for dissent from the German fans in attendance, a decision that is believed to stem from a controversy surrounding his actions in Spain’s quarter-final victory over Germany.
"I don’t know what they were trying to achieve with that," Cucurella said on Spanish radio station Cadena Cope. "These are things that happen. I’m not to blame for anything. The most important thing is that we’re in the final, and that’s it."
The Chelsea full-back has been a standout performer in this year’s European Championships, and it’s no surprise that he has received attention from opposing fans. However, according to his international teammate Daniel Vivian, Cucurella does not deserve such treatment.
"No player deserves this, I think if you come onto a football pitch to boo someone, you have no respect for someone who is doing their job," Vivian told the Daily Mail.
Cucurella’s performances have certainly upped his stocks, and it’s likely that we’ll see him playing a key role in Spain’s quest for Euro 2024 glory. Whether he gets the chance to do so will depend on his performances in training and in matches, but as things stand, he’s looking every bit the part of a top-quality defender.
