CR7’s 900th Goal: A Statement to the World
Cristiano Ronaldo, the G.O.A.T, or so he thinks, marked a monumental milestone in his illustrious career – scoring his 900th goal in a 2-1 win against Croatia in the UEFA Nations League. At 39, you’d think he’d start slowing down, but nope, CR7 is still on a mission to remind everyone of his greatness. And boy, did he do just that.
Speaking to RPT3, Ronaldo declared, "Portugal winning the Euros is the equivalent of winning the World Cup." He even went as far as saying, "I’ve already won two trophies for Portugal that I really wanted, so I’m not motivated by that [World Cup]." Ouch, is that a dig at his arch-rival, Messi, who finally lifted the World Cup with Argentina in 2022?
The Portuguese superstar’s comments resonate with France’s Kylian Mbappe, who joined Real Madrid, Ronaldo’s former club, earlier this year. Mbappe thinks the Euros are more complicated than the World Cup, tactically speaking. And to be fair, it’s hard to argue with that. The Euros do pit teams against each other with a similar level of difficulty, whereas the World Cup features the best teams in the world, making it a more challenging tournament to win.
Ronaldo’s statement, however, did spark a response from Messi, who fired back at Mbappe’s initial comments. Messi believes that the World Cup is more prestigious because it brings together the best teams in the world, making it the ultimate test of strength and skill.
At the end of the day, both Ronaldo and Messi have accomplished incredible feats in their careers. Ronaldo’s 900th goal is a testament to his dedication, hard work, and incredible ability. He’s not slowing down anytime soon, and we can’t wait to see what’s next from this incredible player.
