Cristiano Ronaldo Tipped for Shock Role at Manchester United After Retirement
Cristiano Ronaldo’s second stint at Manchester United ended in bitter fashion, but the Portuguese superstar may have a surprise in store for the Red Devils after he hangs up his boots. According to former England and Liverpool striker Michael Owen, Ronaldo could be set to take on a shock role at Old Trafford – as the manager.
Speaking to TV Sporten, Owen said: "Just looking from the outside, it feels like he might want to be at the side of the pitch managing Portugal like he did at Euro 2016. He looks like a coach, he looks like he wants to coach, so he might want to go down that route. The Portugal job, probably in the future we might have his name on it, you never know."
Owen’s comments come after Ronaldo’s decision to join Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia, a move that has seen a host of high-profile players follow him to the Middle East. The 39-year-old has been linked with a return to Manchester United in the past, but it seems that his future plans may be more focused on the dugout than the pitch.
Ronaldo’s playing career has been nothing short of incredible, with five Ballon d’Or awards and numerous titles with Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus. But could he be set to add another chapter to his illustrious career as a manager?
After Manchester United’s recent 3-0 defeat by arch-rivals Liverpool, Owen suggested that the Red Devils may have to think about Erik ten Hag’s future. "I can’t see them in the top four. I think Man Utd are going to need a change of manager before they have an upturn in fortunes, so is anybody surprised about their start to the season?" he said.
The 44-year-old continued: "I’m still of the opinion that there’s a little bit that needs to change at Manchester United before they can start progressing."
While it’s still early days, it’s an intriguing prospect to consider – could Cristiano Ronaldo be the man to lead Manchester United back to the top of the Premier League?
