Coronavirus Live news: More than 70 percent of Indian adolescents in the age group 15 to 18 years have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine so far, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said on Sunday. He also called on all those in this age group who are eligible for vaccination to get inoculated as soon as possible. “Young India further strengthens the world’s largest vaccination campaign. More than 70% of our young people between 15 and 18 years old have received their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine. I call on all eligible young friends to get vaccinated ASAP,” Mandaviya tweeted.
India reported 44,877 new cases of covid-19 on Sunday, down from more than 50,000 cases on Saturday. India’s active caseload currently stands at 5,37,045, comprising 1.26 of the total infections. The recovery rate is 97.55%, while the daily and weekly positivity rates are 3.17% and 4.46%, respectively.
Citing a significant improvement in the Covid-19 situation, the Election Commission further relaxed pandemic-induced restrictions on the Assembly election campaign in five states, allowing padayatras with a limited number of people and increasing the number of hours of campaign in one day. According to the polling panel, the election campaign can now take place between 6am and 10pm instead of before 8am to 8pm, following all appropriate Covid behaviors and protocols from the state authorities of disaster management. This will give candidates and parties an extra four hours to campaign in one day.
