Argentina and Colombia Lock Horns in Copa America Final
We’re underway in the highly-anticipated Copa America final between Argentina and Colombia, and it’s been a closely contested affair so far. With 57% possession, Colombia has dominated the early exchanges, but Lionel Messi’s Argentina has yet to truly test their opponents.
In the 20th minute, Messi had his first real chance, but Camilo Vargas was equal to the task, producing a fine save to deny the Argentine legend. Angel Di Maria played in Messi with a delightful cross, but the Colombian goalkeeper was able to keep his shot out.
The game has been a bit of a midfield battle, with neither side able to establish a clear dominance. Colombia’s Jhon Cordoba was the first to test Emiliano "Dibu" Martínez, but his shot crashed off the left post in the 7th minute.
Dibu was called into action again in the 5th minute, producing a spectacular save to deny Luis Diaz’s powerful right-footed shot. It’s been a busy start for the Argentine goalkeeper, but he’s more than up to the task.
Argentina won the first corner of the game in the 3rd minute, with Jefferson Lerma conceding the set piece. However, Colombia has been the more clinical side so far, with two shots on target to Argentina’s none.
Disorganization Reigns
Meanwhile, outside the stadium, fans are at their wit’s end. With a large number of ticket holders unable to gain entry, frustration is mounting. The lack of organization from CONEMBOL, the soccer federation of South America, has been heavily criticized, with many fans taking to social media to vent their anger.
