María Fernanda Rangel and Carlos Hernán are the two main candidates who, at this moment, are vying for the Comptrollership.

This Thursday the full Congress will elect the successor of Carlos Felipe Córdoba.

This Thursday, starting at 9 in the morningCongress will decide who will be in charge of the Office of the Comptroller of the Republic for the next four years. Although the main options to replace Carlos Felipe Córdoba are Carlos Hernán Rodríguez and María Fernanda Rangel, the latter has lost support in recent days.

Initially, Rangel was supported by four traditional parties and 15 of the 16 congressmen in the peace seats. However, in an unexpected twist, she lost the support of three of the groups that supported her, leaving only the support of Cambio Radical.

This party, in a statement, indicated that it supported Rangel because of his “career and experience, it shows that he has all the capabilities to assume the leadership of the fiscal control entity.”

Parties and Controller

Sectors of the Liberal, Conservative, ‘U’ and Radical Change parties had previously signed a document in support of María Fernanda Rangel for the Comptroller’s Office.

On the other hand, the benches of the Conservative, Liberal and ‘U’ parties announced their support for the candidacy of former deputy del Valle, while the Historical Pact had already done the same before.

“As a Historical Pact, after discussion and reflection, we decided that the criterion of merit prevails. We are going to support Dr. Carlos Hernán Rodríguez for obtaining the best score in this entire process”, justified the president of the Chamber, David Racero.

Parallel to the above, it should be added that sectors of the Democratic Center (who are now part of the opposition) also made their support for Rodríguez known.
