Chelsea are reportedly in the market for a new striker this summer, and one of their top targets is Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins. According to sources, England star Cole Palmer has been secretly trying to convince his teammate to join him at Stamford Bridge.

Palmer, 22, had a breakthrough tournament at Euro 2024, coming off the bench to score a crucial goal in the penalty shootout against Switzerland. He also played a key role in the semi-final defeat of the Netherlands, setting up Ollie Watkins’ 91st-minute winner.

The pair’s partnership on the pitch was evident, and it seems they’ve developed a strong bond off it too. Football Insider claims that Palmer has been telling Watkins that they could achieve great things together at Chelsea under the management of Enzo Maresca.

Chelsea are willing to offer Conor Gallagher to Villa to facilitate a deal, with the midfielder reportedly on Unai Emery’s wish list. The Blues have spent over £1 billion on transfers since Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital took over the club in 2022.

Watkins scored 19 goals in the Premier League last season, making him one of the top scorers in the league. Chelsea have already signed Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Omari Kellyman, Renato Veiga, and Marc Guiu this summer, and they’re looking to add more firepower to their squad.

The transfer saga is far from over, but one thing is certain – Cole Palmer’s efforts to convince Ollie Watkins to join Chelsea have sparked a lot of interest in the football world.
