Chelsea Transfer Update: £13m Summer Signing Reportedly Agrees Terms to Leave Club Without Lifting the Lid

Chelsea’s summer overhaul is still ongoing, but a surprising transfer development has emerged amidst the Blues’ attempts to trim their squad. A player who cost Chelsea £13m last summer, having never set foot on the pitch for the club, has reportedly agreed personal terms to leave for Turkish giants Besiktas.
The 19-year-old Brazilian winger, Angelo Gabriel, was signed from Santos as part of the club’s ambitious reconstruction plans under new ownership. The teenager signed a six-year contract worth £13m, with plans to immediately loan him to Strasbourg in the French Ligue 1.
Gabriel failed to impress in his one season in France, providing only four assists in 25 appearances. His return to Chelsea was followed by yet another loan, this time to the club’s feeder team in Turkey. The lack of playing time and development opportunity has now led to the proposed exit, with Besiktas allegedly agreeing to take Gabriel on a permanent deal.
Chelsea, however, are yet to reach a concrete agreement with Besiktas over the transfer. The Blues remain keen to move players who are unlikely to feature under new manager Enzo Maresca, a strategy aimed at reducing the bloated squad list. Despite offloading ten players this summer, Chelsea still have an impressive 40 first-team members. Last week, Maresca revealed that 15 players were not currently training with the first team, reinforcing the need for pruning.
Chelsea have spent £1.5bn on transfers since the Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital takeover, a spree that has seen the Premier League giants sign nine new players this summer. The influx has left fans and pundits divided, with some hailing the squad strengthening, while others critique the sheer size of the squad.
