Chelsea’s £35m Bid for La Liga Striker Leaves Fans Perplexed
Chelsea have launched a £35m bid for Atletico Madrid’s 20-year-old striker Samu Omorodion, but few fans have heard of him before. The Italian coach Enzo Maresca is keen to bolster his squad ahead of the new season, and a striker is top of his shopping list.
However, it seems like Chelsea are willing to take a risk on an unproven talent. Omorodion has played in the Spanish top flight, but has not played a single competitive match for Atletico, spending last season on loan at Alaves, where he scored eight goals in 34 La Liga appearances.
The deal is not yet confirmed, as Atletico will only sanction the sale of Omorodion once they complete the signing of Julian Alvarez from Manchester City. Chelsea are also hoping to sign Victor Osimhen from Napoli on loan, but do not want to meet the Nigerian striker’s £113m release clause.
This news has left many Chelsea fans perplexed, with some taking to social media to express their skepticism. "Confused club," one fan wrote on X, while another commented "this club is a joke." A third said: "Chelsea keep buying every random player available in the market."
The signing of Omorodion has also raised questions about the club’s transfer strategy under Todd Boehly. "Another random signing from Todd Boehly, he really came in and turned Chelsea into a mid-table club," a fourth fan wrote.
It’s worth noting that Chelsea are also close to completing a £33.7m switch for Conor Gallagher to Atletico, after rejecting the offer of a new contract at Chelsea.
