Chelsea Add Four More Players to UEFA Conference League Squad After "Admin Error"
It’s been a whirlwind summer for Chelsea, with a whopping 10 players joining Enzo Maresca’s squad and 10 departing. And, in a bizarre turn of events, the Blues have added four more players to their UEFA Conference League squad after an "admin error" meant one star player missed out.
Chelsea’s busy summer has seen a significant influx of new faces, with Romelu Lukaku, Raheem Sterling, and Ben Chilwell all expected to leave the club before the transfer deadline next week. Meanwhile, the likes of Wesley Fofana and Tosin Adarabioyo were omitted from the club’s initial UEFA A-list squad submitted ahead of their Conference League play-off first leg against Servette on Thursday.
But, in a major blunder, Adarabioyo was left off the list due to an administrative error. Thankfully, the club has since rectified the situation, and the defender will be able to play in the upcoming match.
In related news, Chelsea have added four new players to their B-list squad: Levi Colwill, Tyrique George, Kiano Dyer, and Joshua Acheampong. According to UEFA rules, clubs are limited to 25 players on their A-list during the season, with a minimum of eight places reserved exclusively for "locally trained" players.
A club may register an unlimited number of players on their B-list, providing they meet certain criteria. These players must be born on or after January 1, 2003, and have been eligible to play for the club for any uninterrupted period of two years or a total of three consecutive years with a maximum of one loan period to a club from the same association for a period not longer than one year.
With the squad now looking more complete, Chelsea will be looking to make a strong impression in the UEFA Conference League. The competition provides a welcome respite from the Blues’ Premier League struggles, and a run to the final would be a significant boost for the club’s season.
