CBS Sports panel expertly break down Erling Haaland performance in Inter draw and agree on the one thing he can’t do as a striker

The One Thing Erling Haaland Can’t Do as a Striker

Manchester City’s Erling Haaland failed to make a significant impact in his side’s Champions League opener against Inter Milan, and the CBS panel has pinpointed the one thing he can’t do as a striker.

Haaland, who has made a blistering start to the Premier League season, was surprisingly anonymous in the 0-0 draw against Inter. Despite a late flurry of chances from substitutes Phil Foden and Ilkay Gundogan, City could have left Italy with nothing to show for their efforts.

Thierry Henry, speaking on the CBS panel, questioned whether Haaland has the ability to drop deep and create chances for his teammates when he’s not scoring goals himself.

"Can he drop though, and get the ball?" Henry asked. "Not as well as we’d like to see him, no, but I do believe his all-round game this season has improved from last season."

Micah Richards, however, defended Haaland, saying: "It’s not his game. I know it’s not, but do you think he can drop, get the ball, and make things happen? Do you?"

Haaland has often faced criticism for his lack of influence on games, but with five assists last season, he has clearly demonstrated his ability to turn provider when necessary.

The Norwegian striker is still only 24, and it’s likely that he will continue to improve and develop his game. However, for now, it seems that Haaland is still working on being able to drop deep and create chances for his teammates.
