"We were focused on trying to win the game," Fonte revealed on FIVE with Rio Ferdinand. "Only after the match, when we watched the images, did we realize what was happening with him and the coach. But we were just focusing on trying to win the game, to be honest with you."

Fonte’s comments suggest that Ronaldo’s involvement from the touchline may not have been as significant as previously thought. While Ronaldo’s presence undoubtedly motivated his teammates, it’s clear that the actual tactical decisions were made by coach Fernando Santos.

Ronaldo’s inability to participate in the game didn’t stop him from making an impact. He famously got up from his stretcher and joined Santos in the technical area, barking instructions at his teammates. This display of determination and leadership may have inspired Portugal to victory, but Fonte’s revelations cast doubt on the extent of Ronaldo’s influence.
