Bielsa explains Raphinha’s half-time withdrawal in Leeds’ clash with Everton

Marcelo Bielsa explains Raphinha's absence at half time in Leeds' clash with Everton

Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa has provided insight into his decision to prematurely remove star attacker Raphinha at the club’s meeting with Everton.

And I’m sure the white fans will be perplexed to learn that, in reality, the Brazilian’s loss is not due to any physical fitness problem.

Instead, as Bielsa confirmed during his post-match press conference, Raphinha simply latched on in an attempt to add new impetus to an underwhelming attacking display:

Keane between the goals

However, the Leeds boss’s part-time efforts to turn the tide in his team’s favour, in the end, proved to be in vain.

This comes with the Yorkshire outfit having been out-thinking, out-fighting and downright out-out en route to an eventual 3-0 thrashing at the hands of Frank Lampard’s reinvigorated Everton.

Goals from defenders Seamus Coleman and Michael Keane saw the Toffees take a two-goal lead in the first 25 minutes of action on Merseyside, before Anthony Gordon added some sparkle to the scoreboard late, courtesy of a third for the hosts.

Everton, in turn, have added some much-needed breathing space between themselves and the Premier League relegation zone, now five points clear of 17th-place Norwich City.

Not only that, but the Blues have climbed to a solitary point from Leeds, despite having played one game less than Marcelo Bielsa’s ranks.
