Barcelona In Crisis: Three Players Set For Exit As Financial Woes Continue
As Barcelona’s struggles on and off the pitch continue to come to the fore, the club has been forced to take drastic action in a bid to balance the books. Despite their preparations for the new campaign, Barca are now set to offload three players immediately, with a further five stars still unregistered with La Liga.
The situation is a damning indictment of the club’s financial mismanagement under Joan Laporta’s regime. With Dani Olmo still waiting to be registered, he’s joined by Inigo Martinez, Vitor Roque, Pau Victor, and Pablo Torre in being unable to take part in La Liga action due to the club’s lack of space.
But while the likes of Eric Garcia and Clement Lenglet are free to play, it’s been reported that the club are eyeing up a last-minute swoop for a left winger and potentially a right-back. However, before they can make those signings, they need to raise some funds and cut wage spending.
So, who are the three players set for an exit? According to Mundo Deportivo, Mikayil Faye, Clement Lenglet, and Vitor Roque are all on their way out of the Nou Camp. Faye, a 20-year-old midfielder who struggled for game time during Barca’s pre-season tour, has caught the eye of Inter Milan.
As for Lenglet, the defender is under contract until 2026 but is earning a gross salary of €16m a season. While Flick wants to keep him, it’s been reported that Deco, Barca’s sporting director, met with Lenglet’s agent to discuss a departure. Even a loan deal would save funds if Barca only have to cover part of his wages.
Vitor Roque, who only joined the club in January, has been deemed surplus to requirements by the coaching staff. Barca will look to recoup at least the €30m they spent on him, with Sporting Lisbon, Everton, and Bournemouth already showing interest.
But what do these departures mean for the club’s chances this season? Only time will tell, but with Barca’s financial woes continuing to dominate the headlines, it’s going to be a long and difficult campaign.
