Summer Transfer Window
With the summer transfer window approaching, there are likely to be some new faces at the Camp Nou. And with that, some interesting numbers available. While Lionel Messi’s number 10 jersey is technically free, it will be reclaimed by Ansu Fati if he is not sold this summer.
The expiration of Joao Cancelo’s loan means the number 2 is free for any incoming defenders, with the Manchester City man potentially returning to Barca on a permanent basis this summer. Joao Felix has also vacated the number 14 shirt with his loan coming to an end, while the departures of Marcos Alonso and Sergi Roberto mean 17 and 20 are available.
La Liga Rules
In La Liga, each club’s 25-player ‘A squad’ must wear shirts numbered one to 25. Players from the reserve team will be awarded numbers between 26 and 50 should they break into the first team during the season. First-team goalkeepers must wear number 1, 13, or 25.
La Liga players cannot change their numbers once the final squad list is confirmed after the end of the summer transfer window. However, up until that point, they can swap numbers with teammates or change to a vacant number.
