Azpilicueta etches name into history books as Chelsea crowned CWC champions

César Azpilicueta etched his name indelibly into the history books as Chelsea were crowned Club World Cup champions

Chelsea star Cesar Azpilicueta secured a completely special piece of history on Saturday night, thanks to the club’s Club World Cup triumph.

Thomas Tuchel’s troops, of course, marked their return to action only a short time ago.

After beating Saudi outfit Al-Hilal in midweek, the Blues turned their attention to a showdown with Brazilian heavyweights Palmeiras, for the title of world football’s most prominent club.

And when all was said and done, Chelsea simply got the job done.

After Romelu Lukaku’s opening goal early in the second half was quickly disallowed by Palmeiras’ Raphael Veiga, proceedings at the Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium were sent into extra time.

Then, just when it looked like the two teams were going to remain level for 120 minutes, Chelsea struck, this time decisively.

Kai Havertz, who also scored the winning goal in last season’s Champions League final, proved to be the man on target, stepping forward to calmly slot past Weverton into the Palmeiras goal, securing Club World Cup glory for his team in the process:

The player in question? César Azpilicueta.

As confirmed on the aftermath of the action drawing to a close in Abu Dhabi, Spain international Azpilicueta has tonight etched his name indelibly in the history books of Chelsea Football Club.

This comes with the veteran stopper, the only player in the club’s history to have secured all seven silver pieces at stake over the course of his spell in West London:
