Arne Slot’s Liverpool Dream Crashes: Teun Koopmeiners Wants Only Juventus
New Liverpool boss Arne Slot is off to a rough start as he’s reportedly been denied his first signing at the club. Teun Koopmeiners, the talented Atalanta midfielder, has made it clear that he only wants to join Juventus, despite Liverpool’s interest.
Slot, who replaced Jurgen Klopp last month, was touted as a promising manager with a wealth of experience in the Eredivisie. However, his transfer plans have hit a major snag with Koopmeiners’ desire to join the Old Lady.
According to Tutto Juve, Atalanta values Koopmeiners at around £50 million, a fee that Liverpool might not be willing to match. The Dutch midfielder has already expressed his intentions to leave Atalanta, saying, "I have indicated to Atalanta that I want to make a move. But there must be something very nice to exchange that for Atalanta."
This setback could be a major blow to Slot’s plans, as Koopmeiners was one of his top targets. The 24-year-old midfielder has impressed in the Serie A, and his departure would leave a significant gap in Liverpool’s midfield.
Former Liverpool player Dirk Kuyt, who played under Klopp, believes that Liverpool’s defense and midfield need strengthening. He thinks that if not many players leave the club this summer, Slot won’t make many changes, but if he does buy, he’ll only bring in players that complement the existing squad.
