Andros Townsend Finally Finds Stability After Turbulent Transfer Saga
After a worrying period of uncertainty, Andros Townsend has finally completed his move to Antalyaspor, putting an end to a transfer saga that had left him feeling stuck in limbo.
The 33-year-old winger, who has 291 Premier League appearances under his belt, had signed a two-year deal with the Turkish Super Lig side in January. However, his registration was delayed due to a transfer ban imposed by FIFA, which prevented him from playing for the club.
Townsend had been training with Antalyaspor but was unable to feature in any matches, leaving him feeling frustrated and unsure about his future. In an interview with BBC 5 Live, he revealed the details of his ordeal, saying: "I don’t know who owns me. I don’t know where my contract is, so yeah, that’s me. I can’t play, they can’t register me, they can’t officially announce me because they’ve got a transfer ban, similar to what Barcelona have, at times."
Fortunately, the transfer ban has been lifted, and Townsend is now free to play for Antalyaspor, who are currently 11th in the league after four games. The club announced his signing on social media, captioning a series of pictures of Townsend in his new colours: "Mission completed."
Townsend himself took to Instagram to express his excitement about the new chapter in his career, writing: "A new chapter, can’t wait to get started." The former Crystal Palace and Tottenham winger has also been keeping busy during the international break, providing co-commentary on England’s win over the Republic of Ireland for ITV and even cracking a joke about his predicament at the time.
As Townsend looks to make a fresh start in Turkey, he will be hoping to replicate the form that earned him 13 caps for England and three goals. With his registration finally sorted, he can focus on helping Antalyaspor achieve their goals in the Turkish Super Lig.
