Shock Championship Move Looms for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
Could former Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain be heading back to England in a surprise move to the Championship? According to reports, Sheffield United are lining up a loan offer for the 30-year-old, who currently plies his trade in Turkey with Besiktas.
Oxlade-Chamberlain’s departure from Liverpool last summer was a shock, with many expecting him to remain at Anfield for several more years. However, he opted for a fresh start in Turkey, signing a three-year deal with Besiktas.
Despite having two years left on his contract, Oxlade-Chamberlain has been linked with a move away from Turkey, with Sheffield United reportedly willing to take him on loan for the upcoming season.
The Blades are looking to make an instant return to the Premier League, having been relegated last season. With Oxlade-Chamberlain’s experience and quality, he could be the perfect addition to their squad.
According to reports, Oxlade-Chamberlain earns a staggering £2.2 million-per-season at Besiktas, which equates to around £42,000-per-week. However, the midfielder may be willing to take a pay cut to return to England and play in the Championship.
Speaking after their 2-0 victory over Preston North End on Friday, Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder revealed that his side are "close" to completing a couple of transfers. "I’d like to think so. We’re pretty close on a couple, even though I thought once again the kids who came on were excellent," he said.
With Oxlade-Chamberlain’s experience and quality, he could be the key to Sheffield United’s promotion push. Will the Blades make a shock move for the former England international? Only time will tell.
