Zubimendi to Liverpool? Exit Could Trigger Midfield Move
The summer transfer window is heating up, and Liverpool are still heavily linked with a move for Spanish midfielder Martin Zubimendi. But what’s the latest on his potential transfer to Anfield?
Zubimendi, 25, has a release clause in his contract worth around £51 million, making him a valuable target for Liverpool. However, Real Sociedad are still keen to keep him, and according to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, the Spanish club are pushing to keep him at the club.
But what if we told you that Sociedad have already signed a new midfielder, Luka Sucic from Red Bull Salzburg, which could pave the way for Zubimendi to make the switch to Liverpool?
It’s not just speculation – according to The Times, Salzburg have made a third bid for Liverpool youngster Bobby Clark, which is close to Liverpool’s asking price of £10 million. If the deal goes ahead, Clark could become Sucic’s replacement at Salzburg, freeing up a spot for Zubimendi to join Liverpool.
This is where it gets interesting. If Zubimendi does join Liverpool, Sociedad would need to replace him, and who better to do that than Sucic, the player they just signed from Salzburg? It’s a clever piece of transfer juggling, and we could see it play out in the coming weeks.
After Liverpool’s 4-1 win over Sevilla at Anfield, manager Arne Slot was asked about potential incomings, and while he wouldn’t confirm or deny any transfers, he did say that the club is always looking to strengthen the squad. However, he also warned that it’s not easy to strengthen the team, especially when you’ve got a strong squad like Liverpool’s.
When quizzed on Zubimendi, Slot was tight-lipped, simply saying "you can come up with hundreds of names!"
So, what do you think? Will Zubimendi make the move to Liverpool, and will Sociedad bring in Sucic as his replacement? Let us know in the comments!
