Ten Hag’s United Suffer Liverpool Defeat as Fish’s Injury Concerns Grow
Manchester United’s pre-season tour of the United States ended on a sour note as they suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of their fierce rivals Liverpool. The Red Devils had created some decent chances throughout the game, but ultimately, it was the Reds who emerged victorious.
However, the main talking point from the game was the injury suffered by academy product Will Fish. The 21-year-old defender was carried off on a stretcher after a challenge with Liverpool youngster Harvey Blair. Fish, who spent last season on loan at Scottish Premiership side Hibernian, looked devastated as he lay on the ground.
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag made his way onto the pitch to console Fish, who was visibly upset by the injury. Speaking to MUTV after the game, Ten Hag revealed that Fish had suffered an impact injury and that the club would have to assess the severity of the problem.
The defeat was a setback for United, who had been looking to bounce back from a disappointing loss to Real Betis earlier in the tour. However, it was a mixed bag for the Red Devils, with some encouraging spells of play at the Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia, South Carolina.
United’s coaching staff will be hoping that Fish’s injury is not too serious, as the defender has been making a strong case for a first-team spot. Fish had recently spoken to MUTV about his experience playing against Liverpool, saying, "You know, you’re at one of the best clubs in the world, and to be out here in America, it’s a surreal experience. So you take each day as it comes and just do your best. That’s all you can do."
Despite the defeat, United fans will be encouraged by the team’s performance, particularly in the first half. However, the injury to Fish is a major concern, and the club will be hoping for a swift recovery.
