Curtis Jones Sets the Record Straight on Jurgen Klopp Comments: ‘I’d Never Disrespect Him’
Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones has responded to claims that he disrespected Jurgen Klopp by making comments about the German coach during a recent press conference.
Jones, 23, has been a key player for the Reds since making his senior debut under Klopp in 2019, and has since made 133 appearances for the club, scoring 16 goals.
In an interview with Redmen TV, Jones spoke about the impact of new Liverpool coach Arne Slot on the team, stating that the Dutchman has introduced a new style of play that suits the players.
However, some fans misinterpreted Jones’ comments as disrespectful towards Klopp, who is no longer the Liverpool boss. Jones took to social media to clarify his words, saying: "The principles are always the same; we want to work hard, press, dominate teams. That’s what I think came across a little bit wrong [which is why] I’d like to say now, I’ve seen things that it seemed like I was disrespectful in a way. But Jurgen knows I’d never be that kid. He knows how much I love him, that I love all of his staff."
Jones emphasized that he has only praise for Klopp, who gave him his debut and provided him with a platform to grow as a player.
"When I said that, I think people took it out of context," Jones said. "It was just me saying that how I’m going to play now is a little bit of a change. He’s given me the platform and belief in myself to know I’m a kid who can step up as well, I’m not just a kid who’s a squad lad, I can really be counted on."
Jones’ comments were met with widespread approval on social media, with fans praising the midfielder for setting the record straight.
As Jones continues to thrive under Slot, it’s clear that he remains committed to the values and principles instilled in him by Klopp.
