A Shocking Prediction: This Premier League Manager is Favourite to Leave This Season
With the new season just around the corner, speculation is growing about which managers might be the next to feel the pressure of the sack. We’ve taken a closer look at Betfair’s odds, and the results may surprise you.
As always, poor performance is likely to spark calls for change at the top of clubs, and this season is no different. Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe is currently the favourite to leave his role first, at 9/2. This isn’t exactly a shock given that the Magpies struggled last season and fell short of expectations. However, given Howe’s impressive results in his previous campaigns, it’s surprising that Betfair are already pricing up his potential departure.
New Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag comes in at 11/2, although it’s worth noting that he did just survive the post-season review following a disappointing first campaign at Old Trafford. Nottingham Forest’s Nuno Espirito Santo and Leicester City’s Steve Cooper are both 10/1, suggesting that both clubs will be under immense pressure to perform in 2024-25.
The surprises don’t stop there, folks! Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna, who has recently been linked to the England job, is priced up at 14/1 to leave first. Meanwhile, reigning champions Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta is the least likely to leave his role, at 50/1, alongside there being "No Manager To Leave". It’s tough to imagine Arteta being pushed out of the Gunners job anytime soon.
Here’s a breakdown of the current odds:
- Eddie Howe (9/2)
- Erik ten Hag (11/2)
- Nuno Espirito Santo, Steve Cooper (10/1)
- Sean Dyche, Russell Martin (11/1)
- Oliver Glasner, Andoni Iraola, Marco Silva (12/1)
- Kieran McKenna (14/1)
- Ange Postecoglou, Enzo Maresca (16/1)
- Fabian Hurzeler (18/1)
- Thomas Frank, Julen Lopetegui, Gary O’Neil (20/1)
- Arne Slot (25/1)
- Unai Emery, Pep Guardiola (33/1)
- Mikel Arteta, No Manager To Leave (50/1)
