Usain Bolt reveals the truth behind his Borussia Dortmund trial and names his biggest ‘mistake’ in football

Usain Bolt: The Truth About His Trial with Borussia Dortmund and the Biggest Mistake He Made in Football

Usain Bolt, the fastest man in the world, took the football world by storm after retiring from athletics. He pursued a career in professional football, joining Borussia Dortmund and then the Central Coast Mariners in Australia. In a recent interview, Bolt spoke about the trial with Borussia Dortmund and his biggest mistake in football.

Bolt initially trained with Dortmund as a sponsored athlete, enjoying the experience and the fun it brought. However, he decided to pursue the Central Coast Mariners trial due to the media attention he faced in Europe. "Some of my friends went ‘Yo, the Australian league, it’s easy, you can come and learn and develop’, I was thinking yeah that’s a nice idea, no one is going to travel that far to come and watch us," he explained.

Despite his doubts, Bolt found training with the Mariners to be intense, focusing on ball work rather than the intense cardio he was used to. "We played and I scored two goals, I was working and I said two months and I will be ready. I know my plan and I was working with the assistant coach so I knew I was going to be ready to go," he recalled.

So, what’s the biggest mistake he made in football? In his opinion, it was underestimating the competition and the intensity of football training. "Football training is different, they don’t do a lot of running like I did to get in shape, I was like ‘I’m never going to get in shape like this’", he confessed.

As a successful athlete, Bolt’s honesty is refreshing, and his insights offer a glimpse into the challenges of transitioning from one sport to another. The trial may have ended, but the excitement around Usain Bolt’s football journey remains strong.
