Danny Drinkwater Claps Back at Trolls Mocking His Post-Football Career Choice
Former Leicester City and Chelsea midfielder Danny Drinkwater has hit back at critics who have been mocking his decision to pursue a career in property renovation after hanging up his boots.
The 34-year-old announced his retirement from professional football last year, citing a loss of passion for the game. Since then, he’s been working on various property projects around his hometown of Manchester, and has been documenting his journey on social media.
However, not everyone has been supportive of Drinkwater’s new career path. He recently posted a photo of himself working on a building site, which attracted a flurry of negative comments from trolls.
One Instagram user even had the audacity to tell Drinkwater he’d "hit rock bottom" and that he was "f** h". But Drinkwater wasn’t having it.
"Some of these messages, behave," he replied. "I love being on site grafting. It’s a choice."
And now, in a follow-up post, Drinkwater has proven that he has no regrets about his decision to leave football behind.
In a video posted to his Instagram story, the former England international showed himself cruising around in a van with his colleagues on a lunch break from the building site.
"Come on lads in the white van," he shouted at the camera. "F***ing lunch run, come on! Wey!"
It’s clear that Drinkwater is loving his new career and isn’t bothered by the haters. And who can blame him? He’s found a new passion and is making a living from it.
The Stats
- Drinkwater earned £120,000 per week during his time at Chelsea
- He made just 23 senior appearances for the club in five years
- He won the Premier League title with Leicester in the 2015/16 season
- He’s now working on various property projects around Manchester
The Verdict
Drinkwater’s decision to leave football behind may have raised a few eyebrows, but it’s clear that he’s found a new passion and is making the most of it. And who knows, maybe one day he’ll be a household name in the world of property renovation.
