Liverpool’s £55m Deal for Takefusa Kubo Could Fund Real Madrid’s Move for Trent Alexander-Arnold

Liverpool are closing in on a £55m deal for Real Sociedad winger Takefusa Kubo, and it could have a significant impact on Real Madrid’s chances of signing Trent Alexander-Arnold.

According to reports, Liverpool are in the final stages of negotiations to sign the 23-year-old Japanese international, who has a release clause of €60 million. If the deal goes through, it could provide Real Madrid with the funds to make a move for Alexander-Arnold.

Last week, it was reported that Los Blancos have made contact with the Liverpool right-back, who has a contract until 2025. While there is no contract extension at Anfield yet, Alexander-Arnold is said to be interested in the move, and there has been contact between the two clubs since November.

The interesting thing here is that Kubo was previously signed by Real Sociedad from Madrid in 2022 for a reported fee of €6 million. However, the Basque club paid for 50% of Kubo’s rights, which means that Madrid can either buy the Japanese winger back for 50% of the price they sold him for or will get half of the profit Sociedad make if they manage to sell Kubo.

If Liverpool sign Kubo, it could mean that Madrid get extra cash in their bid to lure Alexander-Arnold away from Anfield. It’s a clever move by the Reds, who could be using Kubo’s sale to fund their own transfer activity.

In other news, Liverpool were beaten by Preston North End in a behind-closed-doors friendly at the AXA Training Centre. After the match, Arne Slot said: "After two weeks of tough training sessions it’s important to play a game as well. The most important thing is that everybody was fit before the game and they stayed fit during the game as well."
