On Tuesday, Kylian Mbappé became a Real Madrid player and wow, what a moment! Fans queued for hours in the scorching heat, with temperatures reaching close to 90 degrees Fahrenheit (32 degrees Celsius). For a club that takes immense pride in its history and tradition, you would expect nothing less for its new star.
Mbappé looked in awe as he took a look around the Santiago Bernabeu. Fans were ecstatic, showering him with chants and cheers, much to his delight. He had waited long to join the Whites and in fact, almost joined Real Madrid earlier in 2017 and then in 2022. Now that dream has finally come true, at the cost of a free transfer after he rejected an extension with Paris Saint-Germain.
There wasn’t a hint of fanfare this time around, just Mbappé, his new jersey number, and a lot of adulation from the crowd. It was indeed old-school Real Madrid, full of tradition and humility. In today’s era of high-octane entertainment, it’s refreshing to witness passion and loyalty without pyrotechnics or a concert stage.
As he walked across the Bernabeu pitch, Mbappé held a microphone, speaking freely, mostly in Spanish, about the excitement that has been building for quite a while. “I’ll always believe that this moment would arrive” and he never had any doubt it would. Mbappé added “I was sure one day I would play for this fantastic club” and he will put everything into helping the team make this new chapter a story worth telling.
Now that you can finally put a face and an jersey to the name ‘ Mbappé’, it becomes inevitable that he will play a significant part. Carlo Ancelotti will dictate what role he will play with existing players like Vinícius Jr and Rodrygo waiting eagerly for the French sensation’s emergence.
What does this say? ‘The most important thing’ now is ‘to be right, physical, mentally’ to help the team!
Whenever that long-awaited first taste of the pitch comes – or rather, the broken nose recuperates – Real Madrid already has a new star in house to continue their winning streak.
