Manchester United Fans Left Perplexed by Club’s Rashford Post
Manchester United’s pre-season preparations got off to a disappointing start with a 1-0 defeat to Rosenborg in Trondheim on Monday. The Red Devils were expected to ease into the new campaign, but instead, they were left to rue a late winner from Noah Holm in the third minute of second-half injury time.
The United squad featured several first-team stars, including Marcus Rashford, Casemiro, Mason Mount, and Jonny Evans, alongside a number of youngsters. Despite the impressive lineup, Erik ten Hag’s side failed to impress, with many fans left scratching their heads over the club’s post-match tweet about Rashford.
The tweet in question showed Rashford controlling a cross-field ball with his chest and playing it past an opposing defender, only to be tackled and lose possession. The caption read: "Nicely done, Marcus Rashford." However, United fans were quick to point out that the clip was unremarkable and didn’t showcase anything particularly impressive from the England international.
"What’s this? Be serious," posted one fan on Twitter. Another added: "What did he do?" While a third fan joked: "He has gone past one player and lost the ball. The standards have never been lower at the football club as they currently are. Sad to see."
Ten Hag was left to lament his side’s performance, insisting that their fitness levels were not a valid excuse for the result. "The result is not secondary. Our performance as a team is by far not good enough," he said. "This is not the standard for top football. We can’t be match fit at this moment. They have a much higher fitness level but we are Manchester United we must perform better."
United will look to bounce back from the defeat with a match against Rangers at Murrayfield on Saturday before they travel to the United States for their pre-season tour starting with a game against Arsenal on July 28.
