Paddy Pimblett’s Euro 2024 Antics Spark Outrage: UFC Star’s Response Revealed
UFC star Paddy Pimblett has sparked outrage after celebrating Spain’s win over England in the Euro 2024 final, but the Liverpudlian fighter has now responded to the backlash.
Pimblett, who doesn’t support the England national team due to derogatory chants sung by rival fans, was filmed celebrating Spain’s decisive goal while taunting his friends at a pub. The UFC star was heard shouting insults, including the Scouse term "Woolyback" to describe people from the Liverpool area who aren’t actually from the city.
The video sparked widespread criticism, with many calling out Pimblett’s behavior as unacceptable. However, the fighter has now taken to Instagram to explain his actions.
"So a lot of ppl are making a big deal out of this video so I’m putting it up myself for yous all to see," Pimblett wrote. "I had a bet with a few of my mates in the pub and if England would have won I would have had to pay out £3000, also everyone jumped on me and celebrated on me 10 mins earlier when England scored. How can you expect me not to return the favor a few mins later?"
Pimblett also shared a screenshot of his Instagram story, where he clarified that he doesn’t support England due to the derogatory chants sung by rival fans.
"That’s what it feels like winning 3k in the last minute of the match anyone that says they wouldn’t celebrate winning a bet like that yous are absolutely crazy," he wrote.
The controversy has sparked a heated debate about sportsmanship and nationalism, with many calling for Pimblett to apologize for his behavior. However, the UFC star’s response suggests that he is standing by his actions.
