Manchester United’s Dutch Dream: Targeting Xavi Simons as Third Netherlands Star
The summer transfer window is officially open, and Manchester United are wasting no time in making their mark. After reportedly closing in on Joshua Zirkzee and Matthijs de Ligt, the Red Devils are now said to be targeting a third Netherlands star: Xavi Simons.
According to The Sun, United will look to lure the highly-rated forward to Old Trafford, with PSG yet to decide on his future. Leipzig, Bayern, and United are all keeping a keen eye on the situation, with PSG reportedly looking for a transfer fee of around £70 million to part ways with Simons.
Simons impressed during the 23/24 season after being loaned out to Leipzig by PSG, and his performances have caught the attention of several top clubs. United are said to be keen on the 21-year-old’s pace, skill, and goal-scoring ability, and could be willing to pay a premium to secure his services.
De Ligt, who was included in the Netherlands’ Euro 2024 squad, is reportedly progressing well in his bid to join United, with Fabrizio Romano revealing that the defender has told his agent Rafaela Pimenta that only United will do. Romano also stated that the contract agreed is valid until June 2029, five years, with De Ligt only wanting to join United.
With the summer transfer window in full swing, United are showing no signs of slowing down. Erik ten Hag’s squad is in need of reinforcements, and the addition of Zirkzee, De Ligt, and Simons could be the perfect way to bolster their attacking options.
