Cristiano Ronaldo once got angry at a reporter and threw his microphone into a lake when he objected to his question.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has taken part in many interviews over the years, but he was in no mood to answer a question in 2016.
The Portugal captain was walking with the rest of the team in Lyon, France ahead of their Euro 2016 Group F clash against Hungary when he was approached by a CMTV journalist.
But immediately, the former Manchester United superstar grabbed the microphone and threw it into a nearby lake. Portugal officials spoke briefly to the journalist but were left without a microphone and without comment from the Real Madrid legend.
The video quickly went viral and made headlines around the world, though many wondered what prompted Ronaldo to react this way.
However, the journalist in question, Diego Torres, hinted at why Ronaldo responded to him in this way – admitting that his TV station has done a lot of stories on him and his personal life.
“I asked Ronaldo if he was ready for the match,” Torres said in an interview. BBC,
“He didn’t respond. He snatched my mic and threw it in the lake.”
“I’m not sure why he did it. I think it was a spur of the moment thing. I think if he had thought about it he wouldn’t have done it.”
“We are a TV channel, a major newspaper in Portugal. We put out a lot of news about him. Some of it he doesn’t like. Maybe that’s why he did it. But it was nothing personal.”
“I have not received any apology from Ronaldo or the team. We traveled to France on the same plane with the players and will fly back with them.”

At the time, there was immense pressure on Ronaldo and Portugal after two poor performances and a 3–3 draw with Hungary – their third in the group. Fernando Santos’s team reached the knockout stages in third place despite failing to win a game.
And incredibly, Portugal would advance to France without winning a single game in the normal squad. With Ronaldo sidelined by a knee injury, substitute Eder scored the winner in extra time against the hosts to clinch silverware.
