At the best FIFA awards, Italy captain Donnarumma chose Leo Messi as the player of the year, while coach Luciano Spalletti chose Toni Kroos.
International journalists and national team captains voted for the FIFA Best Award 2024, so Donnarumma and Spalletti represented the Azzurri and could choose three candidates for each award.
The first pick got five points, the second got three and the third only one.
Italy was also represented by Carlo Ancelotti, who was named Best Men’s Coach of FIFA 2024,
As FIFA revealedDonnarumma and Spalletti both placed the Real Madrid boss in their top three.
The Italian keeper chose Ancelotti as coach of the year, while Spalletti chose Pep Guardiola ahead of his compatriot.
As far as Player of the Year is concerned, Spalletti removed eventual winner Vinicius Jr. from his top three, replacing him with Toni Kroos, Jude Bellingham and Leo Messi.
Donnarumma chose Messi as his first choice, followed by Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr. Both Messi and Mbappe have shared the PSG dressing room with Donnarumma in the past.
Gigio was among the nominees for Goalkeeper of the Year, but did not make the top three, allowing Emiliano Martínez to win again.
While Spalletti chose Donnarumma as his No. 1 choice, Giugio voted for Unai Simon, Andrey Lunin and Mike Maignan.
