Erik ten Hag was told to leave Man Utd after FA Cup final win over Man City but ignored advice

Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United Future Hangs in the Balance

As Manchester United’s dismal form continues, the question on everyone’s lips is: what’s next for Erik ten Hag? The Dutchman has faced intense scrutiny following the Red Devils’ worst-ever Premier League finish, and it seems like his future at Old Trafford is hanging by a thread.

Just last season, Ten Hag was advised to "leave through the front door" by his lifelong friend Leon Ten Voorde, just 24 hours before the FA Cup final win against Manchester City. But despite that morale-boosting victory, the club’s struggles have continued, with United currently winless in four matches.

Ten Voorde, speaking on the De Ballen Verstand podcast, reiterated his concerns about Ten Hag’s future, saying: "How long does United think this can go on? That question is now hanging over United and Ten Hag again." The Dutchman’s calm and relaxed demeanor may be masking the pressure building behind the scenes.

The uncertainty surrounding Ten Hag’s future has been further fueled by United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s recent refusal to give the manager assurances over his job security. Ratcliffe’s comments have left fans and pundits alike wondering if Ten Hag is indeed on borrowed time.

In a recent interview, Ratcliffe said: "I don’t want to answer that question… I like Erik. I think he’s a very good coach, but at the end of the day it’s not my call, it’s the management team that’s running Manchester United that have to decide how we best run the team in many different respects."

But what does the future hold for Ten Hag and Manchester United? The club’s new management team, led by CEO Omar Berrada and Sporting Director Dan Ashworth, has only been in place since July. They need time to assess the situation and make informed decisions.

As United’s objective is clear – to take the club back to its former glory – it’s imperative that the management team takes stock and makes sensible decisions. But for Ten Hag, the clock is ticking. Will he be given the chance to turn things around, or will he be shown the door?
