Toni Kroos: Real Madrid moved on after Ronaldo and Ramos and they will after me

Toni Kroos Offers Straightforward Response to Real Madrid Legacy

Toni Kroos has spoken about his legacy at Real Madrid, and it’s your typical straightforward response from the German midfielder. The former international opted to bring his illustrious career to an end at the end of the 2023/24 season, choosing not to sign another contract extension with the Spanish giants.

Kroos confirmed that he would leave Real Madrid after their UEFA Champions League final win and retire from football completely after UEFA Euro 2024. While rumors have circulated about a possible return, Kroos has stuck to his stance and is enjoying his break from the game.

The 34-year-old will be back at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu this weekend, attending Real Madrid’s home game against Villarreal. However, he’s not dwelling on the past. In an interview on the Einfach Mal Luppen podcast, Kroos said: "It doesn’t do any good to talk about my exit. It’s a compliment to have been important, but you have to adapt."

He added: "Real Madrid adapted when Cristiano Ronaldo and Sergio Ramos left, they always adapt and keep winning. We won the Champions League twice without those two, although they were very important, absolute legends. The same thing will happen now."

Kroos reiterated his desire not to return to playing, and he’s not yet considering a coaching role. However, he is planning to open up a youth coaching academy in Madrid in 2025. It’s clear that Kroos is looking forward to the next chapter of his life, and he’s not looking back.
