The 2022 World Cup winner now has 66 goals directly from set-pieces, surpassing Beckham’s tally of 65.

Messi, who has been instrumental in Inter Miami’s success this season, also spoke after the triumph. The Argentine star was keen to set his sights on the MLS Cup, which will take place in December. "The first objective has been achieved and now we have to think about what’s next," he said. "The first round is three games but then it’s one game and anything can happen. But we have the great advantage of playing all the games at home, which is what we were looking for. We are very strong at home."
