German Media Unimpressed with Harry Kane Despite Goal Scoring Streak
Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane has been left in the firing line by the German media, with his performances in big games continuing to raise questions over his ability to deliver on the biggest stage.
Kane has been a goal-scoring machine for the Bundesliga giants, netting 54 goals in just 52 games, a truly phenomenal record. But despite his impressive stats, Kane has come under scrutiny for his displays in important matches, with a recent draw against Bayer Leverkusen sparking a debate about his ability to rise to the occasion.
According to journalist Walter Straten of Bild, Kane was anonymous in the big game, struggling to make an impact on the match despite his impressive goal-scoring record. Straten wrote: "Lots of effort, too little success. Harry Kane is hanging around alone up front. What good are three goals against Kiel if he doesn’t even get a shot on goal in a big game like yesterday? Fairness dictates we shouldn’t unleash the Kane-can’t-win-a-title curse now, especially since he had to leave injured."
But while Kane’s critics may have some valid points, his record and ability to adapt to a new league should not be underestimated. Since moving to Bayern Munich in the summer of 2023, Kane has adjusted remarkably quickly, netting 45 goals in 44 games across all competitions. He has also started the new season strongly, netting 10 goals in his first seven appearances.
However, Kane’s fitness levels have been called into question after he was substituted late on in the game against Leverkusen due to an ankle injury. While medical tests have revealed a "positive development", his fitness for the upcoming Champions League clash with Aston Villa is still uncertain.
