Can Anthony Gordon Replace Harry Kane as England’s Main Striker?

"I’ve been really impressed with him in this position and I think he gives you an option," Cole told TNT Sports. "From an outside looking at England, I think that’s a food for thought for the manager because playing him there, the pressing was exceptional. There’s not many that buy into it as much as he does, and that set the tone. Newcastle were brilliant behind the ball, and he was so important for them."
Gordon, 21, has been making waves in the Premier League with his performances for Newcastle, and his statistics back up Cole’s claims. The young forward has averaged over 1.5 shots on target per game and has scored six goals in 17 appearances this season.
But can he really replace the legendary Harry Kane? While Kane has struggled at times in recent years, he remains one of the best strikers in the world and has consistently delivered for England. However, Cole’s point is that Gordon offers something different to the national team, and his pressing ability could be a game-changer for the Three Lions.
"I think he’s someone who wants to run in behind," said former England Under-21s coach Joleon Lescott. "He’s got 100 per cent effort, and you can see every action, he’s giving it his all."
Gordon has only six caps to his name, but he will be looking to make a bigger impact under interim boss Lee Carsley this year.
